These plates are made from a charcoal black, and very textural stoneware clay, then glazed with a creamy white glaze. During the kiln firing the iron in the clay interacts with the glaze giving it a beautifully mottled surface. I love the juxtaposition here of the rough clay texture with the satiny smooth finish of the glaze.
The foot of each plate is sanded to a smooth finish
Each piece is unique, and some variation is to be expected.
Measures appx. 5” at the rim and 1” tall.
